Carpenter is a small town located in Kingsbury County, South Dakota, USA. It has a population of approximately 143 people and covers an area of 0.61 square miles. The town was founded in the late 19th century and was named after its first postmaster, Charles Carpenter. The primary industries in Carpenter are agriculture and livestock production. The town has a volunteer fire department, a community center, and a public park. Education is provided by the De Smet School District and there are numerous churches in the area. Carpenter is located approximately 25 miles east of the city of De Smet and 60 miles north of Sioux Falls.
